About Us
The Reversibility Network is a research network funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), whose mission it is to advance research that focuses on reducing the impact that early life adversities (e.g., low socio-economic status [SES]; stressful childhood experiences such as, social isolation, poor parent-child relationships [e.g. child neglect/abuse] or other violence; poor maternal diet, body composition and lifestyle; etc.) have on individuals later in life.
The network brings together senior and junior scientists to foster and facilitate the interdisciplinary research needed to stimulate rapid advances in this field. This growing network of interdisciplinary ELA experts seeks to foster research that will fundamentally develop and prepare the field for greater scientific discoveries, with a particular focus on the interaction between ELA and interventions for population and patient benefits. It is through this research that we aim to raise awareness about the importance of ELA, ELA measurement, ELA mechanisms, and effective interventions. |
NIA R24 Grant
Funding for the Reversibility Network is made possible through a National Institute on Aging (NIA) grant (#R24AG065174), "Reversibility Network: Interventions to Reverse or Remediate Effects of Early Life Adversity on Ageing Processes". Laying the Ground Work
Back in April 2016, NIA awarded UCLA researcher, Dr. Teresa Seeman, and a team of ELA experts a U24 grant that provided funding to form the first Reversibility Network. The focus of this network was largely the same as the current one, with its stated goals being to:
The original Reversibility Research Network was divided up into multiple working groups focusing on different topics, from retrospective recall to Early Life Adversities and Neuroplasticity. - Build capacity to advance interdisciplinary research exploring the potential for midlife reversibility of or remediation for risks conferred by early life adversity;
- Support new research on “reversibility/remediation” through seed funding;
- Bring new researchers into the field; and
- Pursue active out-reach through dissemination and engagement with the broader research community.
